How to Install Full Lace Wig

Full lace wigs are now some of the most popular hair accessories worn worldwide.

You can completely overhaul your hair style in a matter of minutes, and feel like a whole new person!

How to Install Full Lace Wig

A full lace wig is different from a lace front wig as it covers the entirety of your head rather than just the front.

They are often much more expensive than other wigs as they are constructed from a lace cap, with 100% human hair that is knotted into the cap by hand for a truly natural look.

Full lace wigs are also much more long lasting and can be parted at any point on the wig, just like real hair, like this one for example:

For this reason full lace wigs can give a stunning, natural desirable look and can be in high demand.

However, installing a full lace wig is no easy task, and is often best to leave it up to the professionals for a high quality installation. But if you want to give it a try for yourself, then we have an easy to follow guide.

These wigs can be parted and styled in any way, without revealing the base of the wig or giving away the secret. However, to have these results, you must install the full lace wig properly.

Most full lace wigs can be applied with or without glue, so it is important that you know which type you have before starting.

How to install a full lace wig with glue

Step One

The first step is to wash your scalp thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner, so that the area that you are going to apply the wig will be clean and oil free.

You should also try to apply some moisturizer on your hair so that it is easy to prepare, cover and style ready for the wig application.

Step Two

If you have short or very little hair, then you should use a wig cap to cover your hairline and natural hair. If you have hair that is a little longer, or very long natural hair, then we recommend that you braid your hair to keep it secure, protected and tucked away under the lace wig.

Try to braid the hair as close to the base of the scalp as possible, and separate into sections depending on the thickness and texture of your hair!

Once you have your braids, you will need to wrap them around the crown of your head, and secure neatly in place ready for the wig cap. Make sure your braids are tightly secured and will not move.

Step Three

Next, you will need to apply the wig cap. To do this, you will need to grab and stretch the cap around the head, tucking all stray hairs on your hairline neatly inside.

Make sure it is on securely, and covers all of your natural hair. You can use an adhesive to attach the wig cap to the head to avoid slipping or movement when the lace wig is on.

Step Four

If the color of the wig cap does not match your natural skin tone, then you might also want to apply some makeup on the edges of the wig cap to blend it into your skin perfectly!

Step Five

Now, you are ready to place the full lace wig onto your head, and fit it evenly. You may have to adjust the position or style to fit your face and the desired look you are trying to achieve.

Use a mirror to find the right look, and utilize some hair clips to keep the wig in place and secure on your head.

Step Six

Once you have found the right placement, you can trim the remaining lace around the wig with a pair of scissors. You should begin by trimming the front part of the lace, and cut in small sections so that you are definitely only cutting the bits you need removed rather than any extra.

Try to remove any bits of lace that are apart from the hairline and try to cut in a zig-zag pattern to make it look more natural and realistic.

Once you have done the hairline, you can move on to the ears and neck. Be careful not to cut any of the hair from the wig, and stick to the lace. If you are struggling, then ask for a little help from a friend!

Step Seven

When you are ready to install the wig, you can take your favorite glue or adhesive and apply a thin layer to your hairline, using a makeup brush for precision.

Once you have applied the adhesive, do not install the wig straight away. Instead, wait a few minutes for the glue to dry or it will not stick well.

Then, put on the wig and place it into position. You should feel comfortable wearing it, and so the wig should not be too tight to your head.

Press the lace in the middle of the front of the wig down first onto your forehead, then smooth it out with your fingers along the edges. You can also use a hairdryer to blow out and dry the edges quickly.

Step Eight

Now, you can style the full lace wig however you like, using a flat iron or curling wand for your desired result.

You should also use a small comb to pluck out and pull some baby hair from the front of the wig to make the application look more natural. To do this you can cut them or trim them to make the hairs look more realistic, and gel them into place.

How to install a full lace wig without glue

You can also install a full lace wig without any glue, but it is a little more complicated and tricky. You will have to weave in wig clips with a needle and thread so that you can attach the wig to your hair.

To do this, you will have to turn the lace wig inside out and weave wig clips into the wig with a needle and thread. Try to choose a thread that matches the color of the wig hair for better results.

Attach the wig clips around three inches apart from each other and repeat the process, sewing wig clips in until you have covered the entirety of the edges of the wig.

Once this is done, you can turn the wig back over to the right way and attach it to your hair, positioning it perfectly for a natural look, and style it as you wish!
